Label It: Trademarks in Fashion

An Exhibition at Modemuseum

Hasselt, Belgium; December 2017

Label It was an exhibition primarily on the trademarks in fashion and how the industry has become of it when creatives are called to be original but we commend those who clearly copy the works of others. My work is to poke fun of exactly just that. Copiers hide behind the very laws that were created to protect ones originality. Where is the fine line? What is acceptable? How are we supposed to encourage originality when even the greatest artists like Picasso is quoted to say "Good artist copy, great artist steal".

Features my collection with Doctors without Borders, a fashion show fundraiser that funds the construction of their headquarters where they will be conducting free medical care for those who are in not able to obtain any health care.

I was awarded one of the top 10 best collections out of 64 designers in my Grad Collection Fashion Show. This award granted me a feature in one of the Philippines leading Fashion magazines. I was featured as one of the "ON THE RISE DESIGNERS" along side with the other contenders of that year.

Meg Magazine invited me to be one of their featured designers to create a cocktail look to inspire their readers 'to be more  of something'. And I chose the word BOLD. In the Philippines, this word is highly negative as it pertains, if to a woman, overly sexualised, showing off of too much skin (as if naked) and body focused more than in her character. I wanted to showcase a woman who is bold without all the negative implications of my culture. She is BOLD, as in confident and stands out in the crowd. BOLD in her fashion choices, as she wears velvet and gold pleather. BOLD as she is sexy without any exposed skin. BOLD as she expresses her mind with ease. BOLD as she is free to live her life in the way that she chooses.

In the Lee Jeans show for PhFw, they invited 5 students in each 4 major Fashion Universities in the Philippines to help create a fantastic show. This not only showcased their talents in design, but hone their skills in styling and learn the in's and out's of the fashion industry. This experience catapulted my career in fashion as it also lead me my first job as a Fashion Designer.
